Covering Africa and the African Diaspora
Safeguarding culture in the fields of art, human history and human rights, the Drammeh Institute provides access to stories and perspectives of the African Diaspora in regions where information has been ignored or generally unknown.
In this spirit of advocacy and collaboration, the Institute has contributed to the lobbying and drafting process of the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the “Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024, and has made numerous interventions concerning human rights before the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations.

Documenting Voices
Contributing to a broader narrative of the global black experience, our moving image and audio records span diverse voices celebrating an agenda of renaissance and development, as well as calls for civilization dialogue, resistance, peace and restorative justice. Regions include: The Americas and the Caribbean, Europe and the Afro-Arab borderlands. |
Informing of Crisis
In 2014 The Drammeh Institute organized the first civil society forum “The African Response To Ebola - Facing Facts And Fears” in New York where scientists, activists and educators from the regions affected by the Ebola crisis to discuss the challenges of Afrophobia and anti-black racism. International forums are dedicated to educating and sensitizing local communities about the humanitarian crisis through African viewpoints. |
Protection of Women and Girls
Each year since 2012, The Drammeh Institute has facilitated platforms for women’s voices at forums of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Women have represented: Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Mauritania, Nigeria, South Africa, Colombia, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Europe and the United States. The topics addressed include violence against women and girls; traditional knowledge systems; STEM related fields and, climate change. |
